William Folorunso Kumuyi was born on the 6th of June, 1941 into a Christain family in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State. His father Gabriel Kumuyi Akinfenwa, and mother, Comfort Idowu Kumuyi Akinfenwa were born both Anglicans, so he understood the Christain doctrines at a very early age.
He had his primary and secondary education at Ogun State, graduating from the Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun State in 1961. A year after leaving secondary school, Kumuyi started teaching at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun-State.
He further proceeded to the University of Ibadan, from where he graduated in 1967 with a first-class honours degree in mathematics. He was the overall best graduating student in that year.
Afterwards, Kumuyi took up a postgraduate course in Education at the University of Lagos. He became a born-again christian in April 1964.
- Teaching Career and Ministry
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi's first step as a teacher was in 1962 when he picked up a teaching job at Mayflower School, his alma mater. In 1970, he became a lecturer of mathematics at the University of Lagos.
Kumuyi began his Christain ministry in 1975 while still working as a lecturer at the University of Lagos. He first began a Bible study group with 15 students who had come to him for Bible training, a training which later became a groundwall of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
In 1975, he was expelled from the Apostolic Faith Church for preaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This didn't stop him as he continued his independent ministry, which in 1982 became the Deeper Life Bible Church. The church has grown from a small group to millions of members worldwide.
Deeper Christian Life Ministry has the international headquarters in Gbagada, Lagos. The church auditorium at the international headquarters could sit up to 30,000 worshippers; it was described by experts as the fourth largest in the world. In Lagos alone, Deeper Life has over 65,000 members and around 500 branches. It has also spread throughout sub-Saharan Africa and to the United Kingdom, Russia, India and North America. As at 2005, the Christian ministry is said to have over 800,000 affiliates.

On 13 September 1980, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi got married to his first wife in Lagos, late Mummy Abiodun Kumuyi whom he met in September 1972. They had two children, John and Jeremiah Kumuyi. Abiodun Kumuyi died on the 11th of April, 2009 after an illness.
Pastor Kumuyi got married to Folashade Adenike Blaize in London on 13 October 2010, exactly 18 months after the death of his first wife. Folashade is the Administrator of the Deeper Life Bible Church, London.

Pastor W.F. Kumuyi was in 2013, listed by the Foreign Policy magazine among the "500 most powerful people on the planet".
In 2018, Wiliams Kumuyi received an honorary PhD from University of Abuja.
