APRIL 2020 - 30 bishops and prominent clergy (United State)
The Church of God in Christ, the country’s biggest African American Pentecostal denomination, took a deep and painful leadership hit with reports of at least a dozen to up to 30 bishops and prominent clergy that died of COVID-19. Among those who died after reportedly contracting the virus were: First Assistant Presiding Bishop Phillip A. Brooks, a preacher and leader from Detroit who was No. 2 in the denomination and whose death was reported by The Detroit News; Bishop Timothy Scott, a leader for nearly 50 years of the denomination in Mississippi whose death was reported by WREG-Memphis; and two Michigan bishops, Robert E. Smith Sr. and Robert L. Harris, whose deaths were reported by the Los Angeles Sentinel.
News reports across the country cited local health officials saying specific outbreaks that led to the deaths appeared to stem from conferences and funerals held within the denomination, which is also known by its acronym, COGIC.
MAY 2020 - Frankline Ndifor (Cameroon)
Panic gripped several hundred people after a popular Cameroon pastor and candidate in the central African state’s last presidential election, Frankline Ndifor, died of COVID-19 following his prayers that hundreds of his supporters would be cured of the coronavirus. Cameroon police used force to gain access to his residence in the economic capital city Douala, as some of his supporters blocked entrances, praying for his resurrection after he was confimred.
Ndifor died and was buried in front of his residence Saturday by workers of Cameroon’s COVID-19 response team in Douala.
His doctor said that some members of Ndifor’s Kingship International Ministries Church called him to come to the pastor’s aid when they found out Ndifor was in agony, and that when the medical team he leads arrived, Ndifor was having severe respiratory difficulties. He says the pastor died less than 10 minutes after they treated him.
OCT 2020 - Wade McArthur Danner (Hickory, US)
Wade McArthur Danner, chief apostle of Pentecostal House of Praise in Hickory US, diedod covid19 in october 2020,He was 67.
Wade’s brother said that even when the pastor needed new kidneys several years ago and more recently when he was diagnosed with COVID-19, he was still full of life.
Wade Danner was a “hot-headed young man” until God called him in his mid-20s to the ministry, according to his brother. Wade Danner remained passionate about serving God every day since, Gaither Danner his brother said said.
NOV 2020 - Pastor Bob Bryant (Calfonia)
A pastor of a Southern California megachurch died on (Nov. 30), days after the church announced he had been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Pastor Bob Bryant died earlier in the day, according to a statement by Water of Life Community Church in San Bernardino County, which had been part of a network of churches. Bryant, 58, had been with the church for 18 years and started as one of its youth pastors, according to the Daily Bulletin.
JANUARY 2021 - Yinka Akinbami (NIGERIA)
Yinka Akinbami, a pastor at House on the Rock church, died from COVID-19 complications on 9 Jan 2021, the Senior Pastor of the church has announced.
Disclosing the development on his Twitter handle, on Sunday, Paul Adefarasin, the senior pastor of the church, said the demise of Mr Akinbami is a painful one.
“Yesterday, I received the rude and shocking news of someone deeply dear to me and all of the HOTR family. The passing of Pst Yinka Akinbami has become most painful because if there truly were good men, he was certainly one. To my brother, sleep well till we meet to part no more.
Mr Adeyinka passed on after contracting the COVID-19 virus. It is unclear whether he had underlying health conditions that contributed to his death.
